This is a totally unsolicited shout-out for Martina & Pilates on Rugby.
I have a herniated disk and after almost 6 months of physical therapy, my dr was about to give up on me. I started working with Martina and after just 8 weeks, my dr released me from her care today- hoorray!!
She also was so impressed that she asked for Martina’s info so she can refer Brooklyn patients to her.
Martina is a whiz with your back, and she is really invested in seeing you get stronger. She listens, she remembers, and I cannot believe how much stronger I am in just 8 weeks– I’m so excited to continue working with her and get even stronger.
If you have chronic back pain, do yourself a favor and give her a call, because she can really turn it around for you very quickly. She is also way too laid-back to promote her own good work! Martina, thank you so much for your help.

” For anyone who is looking to tune into more energy and tone up on physical strength and flexibility, “Pilates on Rugby” IS the place to go. Martina Nevermann skillfully offers Pilates instruction on the mats and with stretch bands, magic circles and balls. You utilize muscles you would not “get to” through more traditional exercises…so, if you’re looking to buff those abs, pull in some slack (thighs and tummy) and flex your spine – you want to be here to “maintain” your body!
For those of us who are “managing” various physical constraints or limitations, Martina is adept at offering alternative variations specific to your requests.
She sprinkles routines and repetitions with a special sense of humor….which really helps when your buns are burning and you feel like quitting. The class atmosphere is relaxed and yes, there is some friendly chatter in between breathing in and out during exercises.
So, by the end of a class, I feel stronger, more flexible and always re-energized. It’s easy to take what I learn in Martina’s class and practice during the week. It’s also nice to know that I can call with any exercise related questions anytime. Martina’s Pilates classes are very enjoyable and extremely reasonable in price. Check it out! “

” I signed up for private class with Martina because I had a pain in my back from trying to excercise too hard before I was in shape. The knot in the muscles of my back had tightened and worsened over a couple weeks and I was unable to work it out on my own. Martina was very knowledgeable about anatomy and careful in her approach to help me find the right strengthening and stretching excercises. We used props — particularly the ‘foam roller’ to ‘roll out my back’ in a safe and incredibly satisfying way. This felt like it was lengthening and stretching my spine. We used the ’springboard’ — a wall mounted form of the ‘reformer’ to do very controlled excercises that focused on my strengthening my lower abdominals and while at the same time stretching my back. After a few private classes, I don’t have any more back pain. “

” It’s so great to be able to walk a block and take a rigorous Pilates class without leaving the neighborhood. I get a lot of personal attention because the classes are small. She limits the number of people in the class, so there is never more than six in the class. And if I miss a class it’s easy to find a make up time. “

” Martina is a great teacher and a total professional. I used to have to go to park slope for a Pilates class, and it made it harder to go regularly. Now, I drop the kid off at school and walk over to a Pilates class to start my day. Her class schedule is perfect for moms dropping kids off at school. The convenience of having a home-studio in the neighborhood allows me to actually have a consistent workout in my life. Since I’ve started Pilates with Martina, my chronic back pain has been mitigated. “
